RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT AND HOUSING DENSITY
4. Residential development consists of a mix of housing, owner and renter, at a range of prices and rents.
5. The housing is one, two, three, and four unit with an architectural style and density compatible with homes in adjacent neighborhoods.

The assumption here must be that a residential housing development would be suitable for this property. Does this mean the main campus? Refurbishing the existing buildings for apartments?
ReplyDeleteAccording to the description of population density, there could be at least 70 units placed in the field behind the Reed Center. Personally, I do not see how this can improve the quality of life of existing Hallowell residents who live on Page and Pleasant Streets. If a neighborhood were to be placed behind the Reed Center, it should be compatible with the population density on Pleasant Street. -- About 8 private homes. I would still create a land buffer to Pleasant Street. For just eight houses, I would think that one could safely exit on Winthrop Street.
The upper land parcels could be used for housing development with greater density. Housing here would not negatively impact existing neighborhoods. Development here would result in the possibility of having planned use for open space behind the Reed Center.
