Negotiating Conditions with State of Maine

The Stevens School and Reed Center have been part of Hallowell since the 1890's. In a way it could be considered part of the town. If the decision is made not to purchase the property, then we should work with the State to arrive at agreed to conditions for the property's use.

What are your thoughts?

  1. Our city councilors need to rethink their position regarding the Stevens School. By not purchasing this property, we lose control. We would not be required to become developers. However, by purchasing the property, we would be able to control how the property will be developed. If we don't purchase, we need to sit with the State and in partnership or collaboration create conditions for purchase by a private developer.
